Senior Technical Manager – East London

Residential Developer

Job Summary:

A leading residential developer is seeking a Senior Technical Manager to oversee all technical and design-related aspects of a major new build residential project in East London. This substantial development includes multiple mid-rise blocks built using reinforced concrete RC frame construction. The Senior Technical Manager will play a pivotal role in delivering this project to the highest standards, ensuring alignment with timelines, regulatory requirements, and quality expectations. Reporting to the Technical Director, the successful candidate will lead the technical coordination of design and construction processes from inception through completion, liaising closely with internal and external teams to ensure compliance and technical precision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Leadership & Technical Oversight
The Senior Technical Manager will take responsibility for all technical design and management aspects of the project, providing technical leadership from planning through to completion. This includes liaising with multidisciplinary teams to define project specifications, overseeing design reviews, and ensuring alignment on all structural and engineering aspects. As the technical lead, you will manage relationships with design consultants and contractors, coordinating to meet construction standards, regulatory guidelines, and budget requirements. In this role, you’ll guide the project’s technical direction, ensuring that quality, safety, and compliance requirements are fully integrated into each phase of construction and problem-solving any design challenges as they arise.
  • Design Coordination & Quality Control
Working closely with design consultants, you will oversee the development of construction drawings, ensuring they meet the organization’s standards and adhere to the latest building codes, particularly those relevant to fire safety, structural integrity, and environmental impact. You’ll conduct detailed reviews of technical documentation, verifying accuracy and compliance with project requirements while managing any necessary amendments or adjustments. Regular on-site inspections will be key to ensuring that technical specifications are implemented as planned, requiring a proactive approach to maintaining high standards of quality control and troubleshooting technical issues during construction.
  • Risk Management & Regulatory Compliance
This role requires a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating technical risks, with a focus on ensuring regulatory compliance and managing project contingencies effectively. You’ll be responsible for assessing potential technical challenges, coordinating with site teams and external consultants to develop practical solutions that minimize project impact. Your expertise in RC frame construction will be vital in maintaining project momentum, managing design changes, and addressing complex regulatory requirements to ensure a compliant, high-quality build.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration & Reporting
Building and maintaining productive relationships with stakeholders is essential to the project’s success. The Senior Technical Manager will work collaboratively with local authorities, contractors, and project teams, ensuring clear communication and alignment on design specifications, project milestones, and any necessary adjustments. Regular reporting to senior management will also be a key aspect of the role, with the preparation of detailed updates on project progress, technical challenges, and risk mitigation strategies. Your ability to clearly communicate technical insights and updates will support informed decision-making and keep the project on track.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Regulatory and Technical Knowledge
Comprehensive knowledge of building regulations, including UK Building Regulations, NHBC standards, and other compliance codes is essential, along with practical familiarity with design and project management software, such as AutoCAD, Revit, and MS Project.
  • Leadership and Communication Skills
Strong leadership skills are essential, as is the ability to communicate technical information effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Proven experience guiding cross-functional teams, influencing decision-making, and solving complex design challenges is highly desirable.

The role is suitable for an existing Senior Technical Manager or a well-seasoned Technical Manager look to take a step-up. If you would like to apply, please submit an up-to-date CV detailing your relevant experience.
